SPI Petro-Pipes® Used To Protect Major City’s Sewer Plants’ Diesel Refueling AreasSPI worked with a major engineering company for more than four years in the development of a containment system used in five separate facilities protecting diesel containment areas. Each area was new construction. A series of 5-8” PVC pipes were installed connected to an 8” horizontal pipe to provide drainage into the environment. Five vertical 8” pipes were installed in each containment area and were then backfilled and concrete was then poured and SPI flanges were attached onto 8” vertical drainage pipes. The pipes are located in a trench 24” wide and 15-20 feet in length. Heavy iron grates were placed over the trench so traffic could drive over them. When the construction was complete and the area was thoroughly cleaned, the Petro-Pipes were installed. The Petro-Pipes are 23” long with a 7” inside diameter and have a top flange that is attached to the preinstalled SPI flange on the 8” drainage pipe. The Petro Pipe was then attached with six screws. A dirt filter was then placed over the Petro-Pipes and the grates were then replaced. The dirt filters catch the major dirt before entering the Petro--Pipe and are replaced as needed. Each Petro-Pipe has a life span of 2-5 years, depending on the location. Some of the locations are larger with more traffic and more refueling while others are in more remote areas.
