SPI Awarded Contract To Install Petro-Plug Boxes For Stormwater Drain Oil Containment

SPI was awarded a $240,000 contract to install Petro-Plug® boxes in 19 stormwater drains, including maintenance and replacement for three years. Each Petro-Plug box is custom-built to fit each drain. Each box is also equipped with a manual bypass valve that can be opened in the event of heavy rain, allowing water to drain. Without a containment system, an oil spill would drain into navigable waters.

SPI will provide two Petro-Plug stormwater box inserts per drain, allowing them to be replaced with no downtime and providing continuous protection. Used boxes will be sent to SPI to be recharged and then returned to the customer. SPI will also provide as-needed, on-site cleaning and replacement of SPI materials.

The Petro-Plug stormwater boxes provide the same oil-containment protection SPI’s other products — Petro-Plug, Petro-Pipe and Petro-Barrier — provide in oil-containment areas.
