WaterBond Application
|
SPI WaterBondQuickly Absorbs Large Volumes Of Aqueous LiquidsSPI WaterBond is a granular polymer that quickly transforms large volumes of sludge, mud and other aqueous-based liquids into dry, firm semi-solids without a significant volume increase. Because of its high absorbency, only a small amount of SPI WaterBond is required to treat large volumes of liquids. SPI WaterBond is particularly useful for material destined for landfill disposal. SPI WaterBond’s uses include:
A Superior Solution Than Conventional AbsorbentsDepending on the waste’s chemical nature and pH, SPI WaterBond typically absorbs 25 to 500 times its dry weight, with absorbencies of 60-250%. This is far superior to conventional absorbents such as clay, fly ash and cement, and can help your company comply with EPA requirements to reduce waste volume. Transportation problems common to conventional absorbents are also eliminated, since SPI WaterBond locks free liquid into a semi-solid form that retains integrity during transportation load shifts or pressures of 50 psi or more. How Much SPI WaterBond Is Needed? To assure proper results and solidification hardness, you should test for the optimum ratio before you start the job. Start with three 10-ounce cups and place 100 grams of waste material in each cup. Add 6 grams of SPI WaterBond to the first cup (6% by weight), 3 grams to the second cup (3% by weight), and 1 gram to the third cup (1% by weight). Allow liquid waste to absorb for 10 minutes without agitation, or allow up to one hour with agitation for sludge, mud and similar substances. Continue to experiment until you determine the optimum ratio. Normal solidification requires a 0.25% to 6% by weight ratio of SPI WaterBond to waste material. Solidification time depends on the viscosity and contents of the waste. How To Use SPI WaterBond To Clean Sludge And MudTo clean sludge or mud from a pit, manhole, boat bilge, etc., start at one end of the material to be solidified. With a shovel or rake, blend SPI WaterBond directly into the material. For best results, divide the area into sections and do one at a time. In most cases, waste sludge will start to firm up and solidify within 15 minutes. After all sludge has been fully absorbed and solidified, the solid mass can be easily vacuumed or shoveled up for disposal. Absorbing Sludge And Mud With High Oil ContentTo solidify and absorb sludge or mud with high oil content, first use SPI OilBond™ to lock up floating oil, then solidify the remaining sludge with SPI WaterBond. |
