Who We Are

History

William “Bill” Gannon founded Solidification Products International (SPI) in 1991 to develop and manufacture solidification technology and products for oil spill cleanup and unique industrial applications. Mr. Gannon’s expertise in oil spill cleanup as executive vice president of Liquid Waste Technologies from 1985 to 1991[HazMat article] and use of polymer technology on oil spills such as the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill was a key factor in the creation of SPI to promote this unique technology. SPI's early years were focused on oil and water absorbent products called Oil Bond® and Water Bond. A natural evolution from spill cleanup to oil spill spread prevention occurred during the late 1990s.

SPI’s development and patenting of Petro-Barrier™, Petro-Plug® and Petro-Pipe® provided solutions to SPI customers’ oil containment needs with a passive, cost-effective solution for oil sheen removal, oil spill containment and rain water drainage. SPI holds three U.S. and two Canadian patents, with other U.S. and foreign patents pending. SPI’s Rain Drains – Oils Contained™ technology is the perfect combination with SPI's Oil Bond and Water Bond superior absorbency original cleanup products.

Evolution

SPI provides the most cost-effective and technically advanced yet functionally simple oil spill containment solutions for a wide variety of applications in two general areas:

1) wherever oils and fuels have the potential to contaminate surface or groundwater, or

2) where contamination has already occurred and the oils and fuels must be separated from water prior to discharge into the environment.

The most numerous installations of SPI’s patented systems involve compliance with spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC) regulations. SPI’s systems and products have been installed around the world in the electric industry for oil-filled equipment such as transformers and by many other industries in a myriad of oil spill containment applications.

After 20 years, SPI continues to innovate and manufacture products for use during oil spill release or containment applications.
